2 Arrhenius (ah-ray-nee- uhs) definition Acid – substance that dissociates in water to produce hydrogen ions (H + ) Acid – substance that dissociates in water to produce hydrogen ions (H + ) Base – a substance that dissociates in water to produce hydroxide ions (OH - ions) Base – a substance that dissociates in water to produce hydroxide ions (OH - ions)
