Lesson Menu Five-Minute Check (over Lesson 14–5) Main Idea and Vocabulary Key Concept: Volume of a Rectangular Prism Example 1:Volume of a Prism Example 2:Volume of a Prism Volume of Prisms

Main Idea/Vocabulary I will find the volumes of rectangular prisms. volume

KC 1

Example 1 Volume of a Prism What is the volume of a fish tank that is 4 inches long, 4 inches wide, and 6 inches tall? One Way: Use a Model Count the number of 1-inch cubes that will fill the bottom of the rectangular prism. The prism is 4 cubes long and 4 cubes wide. There are 16 cubes on the bottom.

Example 1 One Way: Use a Model There are 6 layers of cubes. So, there are 6 × 16 or 96 cubes. Volume of a Prism

Example 1 Another Way: Select and Use a Formula V = wh Formula for the volume of a rectangular prism. V = 4 × 4 × 6 = 4, w = 4, h = 6. V = 96 Multiply. Answer: The volume of the fish tank is 96 cubic inches. Volume of a Prism

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 1 A.15 cubic inches B.30 cubic inches C.45 cubic inches D.90 cubic inches What is the volume of a box that is 3 inches long, 3 inches wide, and 5 inches tall?

Example 2 Volume of a Prism Find the volume of the rectangular prism. Answer: The volume of the prism is 480 cubic meters. Formula for the volume = 12, w = 8, h = 5 V = 480 Multiply. V = wh V = 12 × 8 × 5

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 2 A. 468 cubic millimeters B. 358 cubic millimeters C. 221 cubic millimeters D. 26 cubic millimeters Find the volume of the rectangular prism.
