5 Turn and Talk Why are math diagnostics important to you? Why are they important for your students?

6 When Analyzing Diagnostics, Consider the Following: 1.What was the class ’ overall mastery for each skill? What is the appropriate method of teaching or reteaching that skill? 2.Which students specifically need support for each of the skills? 3.In which units will you incorporate remedial instruction for particular skills? How will you adjust your long term plan based on the extra support your students need? 4.Are there any basic concepts that you will need to repeat daily? What kind of routines can you have? 5.Do you need to adjust your quantitative goal for any particular students?

7 Reteaching: What, How, When? >90% Only Do Now > or = 80% Push in during independent work for individual students or integrate into Do Now and specifically move towards those students <20% Reteach in class (time spent depends on importance) and then quiz again Between 70-80% Move on to new skills with class, and pull small groups during independent work Between 50-70% Group activity with heterogeneous groups with those who understand and do not Between 20-50% Reteach to the class and provide advanced or application level of skill to those who get it

11 Take a 5 minute break Have data from your first assessment ready, or if you have questions because you aren ’ t there yet, have those ready.

13 Unit 1 Data 1.What are the gaps you are seeing? 2.Looking at the standards that your students succeeded on, what particularly went well in the lessons leading up to their assessment? 3.For the standards where your students struggled, is there a common thread? 4.Considering our discussion about the math block and reteaching methods, do you have any ideas of how you can adjust course and fill in these gaps?
