2 Mexico’s Geography Mexico’s mountainous landscape and varied climate create different economic regions. Mexico is part of a land bridge that connects North and South America. Much of Mexico lies in the Tropics but the climate in some areas is cool because of high elevation.

3 Mexico’s History Mexico’s culture reflects a blend of its Native American and spanish past. Mexico’s Native American civilizations-the Olmec,Maya,and Aztec-made many contributions to Mexico’s culture. The spanish ruled Mexico from the 1500s to 1821, when Mexico won its independence.

4 Mexico’s Government Mexicans enjoy a rich and lively culture but face many serious challenges, Mexico’s government is a Federal Republic. In the year 2000, the newly elected president of Mexico, Vicente Fox,came from a different political party-for the first time in more than 70 years.

5 Mexico’s Economics Landforms and climate combine to create 3 economic zones in Mexico. Mexico’s economy is growing, and many people are moving to the northern cities. The main crops they have are corn, beans, wheat, and rice. Exports include coffee, cotton, vegetables, fruits, livestock, and tobacco. Mexico has focused less on farming and more on manufacturing.

6 Fun Facts Did you know that the Olmecs decorated their cities with large stone statues? The Maya developed hieroglyphics and decorated tombs and temples with elaborate murals.
