4 Dementia Care Mapping An observational tool described by Kitwood (1997) as “a serious attempt to take the standpoint of the person with dementia, using a combination of empathy and observational skill.” (Dementia Reconsidered:the person comes first)  Focuses on an individual person’s experience  Guides and supports care away from being task centred and towards person centred  Identifies and supports staff training & development needs

5 Workshop Evaluations …..I really feel I’ve learnt more about respecting people…… I’ve learnt that we should worry most about the quiet ones…… …..I’m now conscious that I haven't really been listening to people I care for….. I think I might have better relationships with my residents now…..
