8 A very rough cost estimate of the pre-isolator:  two 110 tons masses,  20 air-springs,  leveling system  position controls,  ~ 500 kCHf. But large uncertainties on civil engineering costs This does not includes R&D and prototypes.

11 Main beam dumps No estimate has been made yet. But work starting in EN/STI group But an old ILC estimate (R.Appleby, GDE @ Bangalore, 2006) raises some questions

13 Not yet studied:  BDS&MDI magnets, rectifiers and their various services  BDS collimators, optional muon sweepers  MDI vacuum  Support structures for QD0  Push-pull platforms + infrastructure  ….. Independent estimates to come from other groups:  Civil engineering and services (form CE working group)  Detectors (from PH-LCD)  ….

14 Some questions and remarks:  One is very happy that we have made good progress in the cost estimates, even though we are not yet at the end.  For the moment spares, CERN manpower, operational and R&D costs must not be included. However, tooling for installation must be.  Steiner Stapnes will want to discuss with some of us how to make sure that all is correctly counted, but not twice, in particular also concerning the detectors  The CES working group should do the costing for the cavern and services, but we shall montor that everything is included.  Elimination cost must be calculated in cases where it is important (dumps!), but will most likely not be quoted at the CDR stage  We must make progress with the estimates for the BDS  Philippe Lebrun and the management will see how the cost estimates for the beam dumps can be speeded up  The number of magnets for the post collision lines slide is not consistent with the final conclusion. Should they be made super conducting to reduce power consumption?

16 Internal Review of CLIC CDR Value Estimate Guidelines for contents of presentations Presentations are made by PBS domain/subdomain coordinators, i.e. they follow the PBS description of the project Only material costs will be addressed for the time being Each presentation will be 20 min + 10 min questions Each presentation should contain – Brief description of the PBS domain/subdomain – PBS level(s) at which the elementary costs were input – Value estimate methodology: analytical/scaling Scaling variables and laws Possible application of learning curves (learning coefficients) Consistency with general schedule – Justification of elementary/unit costs, references, benchmarking Publications Earlier projects (CERN or elsewhere) Industrial cost studies When applicable, consistency check with ILC RDR – Summary tables of material value at 3 TeV and 500 GeV Installation through industrial contracts is part of material cost – Uncertainties: technical, commercial – Potential for further cost reduction/mitigation To be discussed
