2 Incorporating the USE of technology as a tool
The Big 6 Approach Incorporating the USE of technology as a tool The Big 6 is an information literacy curriculum, an information-solving process, and a set of skills which provide a strategy for effectively and efficiently meeting information needs (Eisenberg, et al, 2010)

3 The Big 6 Approach Task Definition Information Seeking Strategies
• Define the Problem • Identify the Information Needed Information Seeking Strategies • Determine all Possible Sources • Select the Best Source

4 The Big 6 Approach Location & Access Use of Information
• Locate Sources • Find Information within Sources Use of Information • Engage (read, hear, view) • Extract Relevant Information

5 The Big 6 Approach Synthesis Evaluation
• Organize Information from Multiple Sources • Present the Result Evaluation • Judge the Result (effectiveness) • Judge the Process (efficiency)

6 The Big 6 Approach Evaluation of a Lesson (Davis 2010) Task Definition
Understanding music in relation to history and culture Grade Level: 3-5 Task Definition The specific information needed was not listed here (it is listed in Objective and in Use of Information) Information Seeking Strategies/Location and Access Students are encouraged to go to media center and locate print resources. Several other sources were listed including internet cites

7 The Big 6 Approach Evaluation of a Lesson (continued)
Use of Information/Synthesis Students are engaged and have a specific task to complete and present Evaluation For this grade level, I would have chosen a less complex tool for evaluation

8 The Big 6 Approach Big 6 Practice Task Definition
Lesson: Nursing Care Plan Grade Level: Junior Level/College Task Definition Students will obtain client assignment Students will gather information on their client to include patient history, current symptoms, and medications as well as nursing diagnoses and interventions based on client information.

9 The Big 6 Approach Big 6 Practice (continued)
Information Seeking Strategies Students will determine possible sources of information and select the best sources Location and Access Students will conduct client interview, review client chart, review textbooks and refer to available online resources and locate needed resources to complete the assignment

10 The Big 6 Approach Big 6 Practice (continued) Use of Information
Students will collect needed information to formulate a plan of care for their assigned client Care Plan will include: assessment, nursing diagnoses, plan of care, nursing interventions, and evaluation Synthesis Students will organize information and present in the proper nursing care plan format

11 The Big 6 Approach Big 6 Practice (continued) Evaluation
