An Introduction to Key Quotations in Othello

Your group will be assigned an essential quotation from Othello. Your first task is to freewrite silently for 5 minutes on the quotation. You may define words, make connections, draw images, make up a story, list associations, etc. You will be sharing your freewrites with your group.

1.Heaven is my judge, not I for love and duty, But seeming so for my peculiar end. 2.My noble father, I do perceive here a divided duty. 3.I am abused and my relief must be to loathe her. 4.I nothing, but to please his fantasy. 5.Then must you speak of one not easily jealous, but, being wrought, perplexed in the extreme.

After sharing your freewrites, you will have 8 minutes to construct a body sculpture. A body sculpture shows the meaning of the quotation by using your body. This is different than a tableau (remember A Raisin in the Sun??) because you can move.

Body Sculpture Requirements: 1.All group members must be part of the sculpture. 2.While at different points your body sculpture may be a moving, it must end in a frozen moment. 3.The only speech that may occur once the sculpture has “begun” is the pronouncement of the quotation itself.

So…what do you think they were showing?
