ICEL God still in you! God still believes in you! Acts 5:12-16 12 The apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon's Colonnade. 13 No-one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. 14 Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.

ICEL Acts 5:12-16 15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. 16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were healed.

ICEL Matthew 26: 30-46, 69-75 30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus told them, This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' 32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee. 33 Peter replied, Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.

ICEL Matthew 26: 30-46, 69-75 34 I tell you the truth, Jesus answered, this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times. 35 But Peter declared, Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you. And all the other disciples said the same. 36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, Sit here while I go over there and pray. 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.

ICEL Matthew 26: 30-46, 69-75 38 Then he said to them, My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me. 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will. 40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour? he asked Peter.

ICEL Matthew 26: 30-46, 69-75 41 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak. 42 He went away a second time and prayed, My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done. 43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

ICEL Matthew 26: 30-46, 69-75 45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!

ICEL Matthew 26: 30-46, 69-75 69 Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. You also were with Jesus of Galilee, she said. 70 But he denied it before them all. I don't know what you're talking about, he said. 71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another girl saw him and said to the people there, This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth. 72 He denied it again, with an oath: I don't know the man!

ICEL Matthew 26: 30-46, 69-75 73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away. 74 Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, I don't know the man! Immediately a cock crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: Before the cock crows, you will disown me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly.

ICEL The characteristics of Peter 1. He doesn't have faith (Matthew 14:25-31)

ICEL Matthew 14:25-31 25 During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. It's a ghost, they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid. 28 Lord, if it's you, Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water.

ICEL Matthew 14:25-31 29 Come, he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save me! 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. You of little faith, he said, why did you doubt?

ICEL The characteristics of Peter 1. He doesn't have faith (Matthew 14:25-31) 2. He is carnal and proud (Mark 8:27-33)

ICEL Mark 8:27-33 27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, Who do people say I am? 28 They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets. 29 But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I am? Peter answered, You are the Christ. 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.

ICEL Mark 8:27-33 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. Get behind me, Satan! he said. You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.

ICEL The characteristics of Peter 1. He doesn't have faith (Matthew 14:25-31) 2. He is carnal and proud (Mark 8:27-33) 3. He cannot control himself (John 18:7-11)

ICEL John 18:7-11 7 Again he asked them, Who is it you want? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. 8 I told you that I am he, Jesus answered. If you are looking for me, then let these men go. 9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: I have not lost one of those you gave me.

ICEL John 18:7-11 10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.) 11 Jesus commanded Peter, Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?

ICEL The characteristics of Peter 1. He doesn't have faith (Matthew 14:25-31) 2. He is carnal and proud (Mark 8:27-33) 3. He cannot control himself (John 18:7-11) 4. He is not able to pray 5. He lies 6. He renounces Jesus three times

ICEL Mark 16:7 "But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.' "
