doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0224r2 SubmissionSlide 21 NG60 PAR Scope Supporting a maximum throughput of at least 20 Gbps –Throughput is measured at the MAC data service access point –Expected to provide improvements of over 3 times Maintaining or improving the power efficiency per station Indoor and outdoor operations in license-exempt bands above 45 GHz Enabling backward compatibility and coexistence with legacy directional multi-gigabit devices (defined by IEEE 802.11ad-2012 amendment) operating in the same band Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks March 2015

doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0224r2 Submission Increasing demand for capacity and new applications are driving the desire to enhance throughput of 802.11ad to support these needs –Enterprise, residential, operator hotspots, public scenarios –Video traffic is expected to be the dominant type of traffic in WLAN deployments, e.g., media appliances are moving to UHD content, driving a ten fold increase in storage capacity and bandwidth requirements –Lot of industry interest in fronthaul and backhaul communication using 60 GHz Better support of real-time applications –WLAN users demand improved performance (including throughput and power efficiency) in delivering their real-time applications –Operators expect sufficient user experience to offload traffic on WLAN Slide 22Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks Need for the Project March 2015

doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0224r2 SubmissionSlide 23 Usage environments Environments discussed in the study group include: –Crowded public spaces, e.g., airports, shopping mall, train stations –Enterprise and small offices –Data center –Home –Outdoor hotspots Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks March 2015

doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0224r2 SubmissionSlide 24 New and enhanced applications Applications discussed in the study group include: –Augmented reality and virtual reality –Close-reality and interactive gaming –Indoor backhaul with multi-hops (e.g., in data centers) –Mass data distribution/video on demand systems in public spaces –Mobile fronthauling –Mobile offloading –Video distribution and streaming at home (e.g., 3D UHD, 8K UHD) –Wireless backhauling Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks March 2015

doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0224r2 Submission Technical Feasibility The principle of scaling the IEEE 802.11 PHY and MACs to higher throughput is well established by previous amendments, such as IEEE 802.11ac-2014 and IEEE 802.11ad-2012 NG60 builds on the broad knowledge base and system design experience of IEEE 802.11ad devices. –For example, NG60 will consider MIMO and channel bonding that not only significantly improve throughput, but also allow reuse of technologies and testing being used in the previous amendments. Slide 25Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks March 2015

doc.: IEEE 802.11-15/0224r2 Submission Distinct Identify and Compatibility NG60 is different from other IEEE 802 wireless standards/projects in that it is specific for 802.11 WLANs and aims to provide data rates in excess of 20 gigabits per second for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint indoor and outdoor usages for license-exempt bands above 45 GHz. NG60 will ensure coexistence and backwards compatibility with IEEE 802.11ad, thus creating a solution compatible with existing IEEE 802.11 deployments. Coexistence with other systems for license-exempt bands above 45 GHz will be evaluated and documented in Coexistence Assurance document. Slide 26Dorothy Stanley, Aruba Networks March 2015
