2 History of the iPad Steve Jobs knew there was a place in the market for a tablet. The hurdle was, finding the best time to launch one. The iPad falls in between an iPhone and a laptop computer in size. The iPad was actually conceptualized before the iPhone, but was released later. Steve Jobs wanted to make available a product that had all of the capabilities of a handheld device, but with the screen size that would allow one to do more traditional computing. The final product was not the first tablet on the market, but Jobs wanted it to be the best one.
