3 ITAR – import from ISI Ministry of Education and Research (Kunnskapsdepartementet) decided to buy all Norwegian data from ISI Web of Knowledge (Thomson Corporation). Start in 2004. For all Norwegian Universities and University Colleges. Relative amount of UoB-authors and two scientific levels – 20% on level 2 weighted x3. Each publication point worth 5200€ (in 2006).

4 Why? To ensure that all scientific articles are entered, and correctly, into the CRIS’es (Frida and Forskdok) To get better data quality: –Author affiliation. Names and numbers. –Pre-categorized (also non-scientific material). –Journal (right name, year, volume). –Title. –Publishing year.

5 How? Data from ISI are rather unstructered. Have to be ”washed” and then given to the correct institutions- Manual validation of authors (by us, institutes or author). Consult each journal article. ISI only suggests addresses, not 1:1 relationship between author and address.

6 Validation Automatic search for existing post in Frida, if no hit, a manual search is done. Connecting, or a new entry. ITAR gives names and initials of authors. Validator goes to the source (article) and search for authors in the author register in Frida. Enters addresses according to the addresses given in the article (address principle). Address from register in Frida. Adds other information that may be missing (issue, page numbers). Additional information added later (DOI number, scientific dicipline. Mark the finished post as good for reporting.
