6 Today you wil be sightseeing around Central London. Take a seat and relax. Well,...here you can see Piccadilly Circus. It is the meeting point of six main streets. In the middle there is a famous statue of Eros. It was intended to represent the Angel of Christian charity, not Eros the God of Love. A colourful and international crowd of young people gather permanently around the fountain. At night Piccadilly Circus is a blaze of colour from the huge animated neon advertisements.

9 London is not only the capital of England, it is also the capital city of the United Kingdom and the commercial, financial and political centre of a once vast empire. London`s history begins in AD 43 when invading Romans bridged theThames. London is the tenth largest city in the world with about 7 million inhabitants. The oldest part, now the business and banking centre, is called the City. There are the most famous places and green areas in Central London as well as the main streets. The river Thames crosses it from south to north and then eastward to the North Sea. Although overground railways existed in the mid-19 th century a need for more transport to a rapidly expanding London resulted in the ‘Underground’. The world`s first was the Metropolitan line with 30,000 passengers taking an opening day ride in March 1863. The Underground now consists of 11 lines with 273 stations.
