1 The College’s Athletics Program: A Report to the Faculty Senate

2 A Winning Performance… The baseball team won the CAA title and also won the four-team NCAA Gainesville Regional, and finished the season ranked #16 nationally. Women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s golf also won conference titles. In our first season in the CAA, we tied for the most championships with four. Several other teams (women’s basketball/WBI semifinalists, equestrian, sailing) also earned post-season appearances.

3 Setting Priorities… Student-athletes (n~400) posted a 3.0-plus GPA for the eighth straight semester, with 72 receiving Faculty Honors (3.6 or higher) Unlike many NCAA Division I athletics programs…there is no “major clustering” at the College of Charleston. Student-athletes are required to meet with major advisers before registration. Academic Progress Rate/NCAA regulations

4 The Faculty as a Coach… Assisting athletic advisers (progress reports), and participating in: Faculty/Staff Days (including 9/12 volleyball) Faculty Club Events/Days Clyde’s Classroom Crashes Twitter @ClydetheCougar; Instagram Cougar Club (F/S discounts for tickets, etc.)

5 The Colonial Athletic Association Members: Delaware, Drexel, Elon, Hofstra, James Madison, Northeastern, Towson, William & Mary, UNC-Wilmington Colonial Academic Alliance – 10 CofC students attend (UG) Research Conference; Athletes Abroad, Resource Sharing, Guest Scholars Major markets means networking for alumni, recruiting students, internships/jobs, fund raising, media exposure…“growing footprint”; four Cougar Trail events each spring
