2 Cellular Respiration Both requires and sends off energy: Aerobic and Anaerobic 3 Phases Glycolysis Citric Acid cycle Electron Transport Chain C6H12O6+6O2->6 CO2 +6H2O + Energy (ATP + Heat)

4 Glycolysis Is splitting Glucose (sugars) molecules into two Pyruvate molecules Occurs in the Cytoplasm Creates and requires ATP molecules Can occur with or without oxygen Ex. When a human eats a pie the sugar molecules convert to glucose molecules that are then used as pyruvate molecules to prepare for the Citric Acid Cycle

6 Glycolysis Formula (C6H12O6)
Glucose 6 Carbons…….breaks into 2 sets of 3 Carbons which converts into pyruvate molecules Uses 2 ATPs, 2NAD (H+) converts to 2NADH

7 Citric Acid Cycle Requires oxygen for the cycle to process pyruvates and complete the oxidation of glucose

8 Electron Transport Chain
NADH passes the electrons through the Electron Transport Chain Produces the most ATP as the end product; which is used as energy

10 Conclusion Summary Cellular Respiration is a biological process that consumes energy in the form of Glucose and produces it as APT. The process consists of three steps: Glycolysis Citric Acid Cycle Electron Transport Chain
