Warm-up

Solving Multi-Step Equations A.1 How do you solve Multi-step equations?

Terms to know 1. Like Terms: Are terms that have the same variable parts. 2. Distributive Property: Can be used to find the product of a number and a sum or difference. Let a,b, and c be real numbers. The product of a and b+c: a(b+c)=ab+ac The product of a and b-c: a(b-c)=ab-ac 3. Reciprocal: two none zero numbers whose product equals 1.

Solving equations with like terms. 1. Step 1: Combine like terms 2. Step 2: Isolate the terms with the variable. 3. Step 3: Solve for the variable.

Example 1 8x – 3x – 10 = 20

Example 2 9x + x – 7 = 13

Solving equations using Distributive Property 1. Step 1: Use the distributive Property. 2. Step 2: Combine like terms. 3. Step 3: Isolate the terms with the variable. 4. Step 4: Solve for the variable.

Example 3: 7x + 2(x+6) = 39

Example 4: 4x – 7(x – 2) = 26

Multiply by a Reciprical to solve an Equation. Example 5

Multiply by a Reciprical to solve an Equation. Example 6

Classwork-Worksheet

Solve Equations with variables on both sides 1. Use distributive property to clear the equation of parentheses. 2. Combine like terms. 3. Use Addition and Subtraction to Isolate the variable. 4. Use Multiplication and Division to solve for the variable.

Example 7 5x – 21=-2x + 28

Example 8 -3n – 2(n+4)=-6n – 5

Example 9 9b + 8 = 10b
