2 Bead Work - Addition Facts 1 w Michael, at age 4.5 years, is learning the basic addition facts. w Materials: Worksheet (Senari’s Worksheet Generator) Montessori Beads Markerboard

3 Bead Work - Addition Facts 2 w Find the bead bars for each number in the problem. w Place each bead-bar next to the number on the problem sheet.

4 Bead Work - Addition Facts 3 w Count the beads in both bars to get the sum. w (Michael could have exchanged the 6-bar and the 4-bar for a 10-bar.)

5 Bead Work - Addition Facts 4 w Being a perfectionist, Michael decided to think about it and to count them again to be sure.

6 Bead Work - Addition Facts 5 w Write the answer on the problem sheet. w Put the bead bars back into the box. w Get ready to do the next problem.

7 Materials - Addition Facts w Montessori Beads, 10 of each number 1 - 10. w Markerboard from dryerase.com. w Addition worksheet from Worksheet Generator 1 at www.senari.com

8 Bead Work - Subtraction Facts 1 w Mary, at age 7, knows most of the subtraction facts, but continues to practice using the bead bars. w Step 1: Get the 10-bar and the 3-bar for the subtrahend, 13.

9 Bead Work - Subtraction Facts 2 w Step 2: Prepare to exchange. The minuend is 5. Change the 10-bar for two 5-bars Mary now has two 5-bars and a 3-bar.

10 Bead Work - Subtraction Facts 3 w To perform the subtraction, Mary moves one 5-bar away from the rest. w By counting what is left (the 5-bar and the 3-bar) she finds that the difference is 8.

11 Bead Work - Subtraction Facts 4 w After counting the beads, she writes the answer. w When she returns the bead bars to the box, she is ready for the next problem. w She uses the answer sheet to correct her own work.

12 Materials - Subtraction Facts w Montessori Beads, 10 of each number 1 - 10. w Markerboard from dryerase.com. w Subtraction answer sheet is also from Worksheet Generator 1 at www.senari.com

13 Bead Work - Multiplication 1 w George, at age 7, is learning the basic multiplication facts. w Materials: Worksheet (Bead Sheet - Multiply and Divide) Bead chains Multiplication tickets

14 Bead Work - Multiplication 2 w Lay out the chain and tickets so that they are clearly visible. w Count the beads and place the tickets in the appropriate places on the chain of 6’s. Beads/tickets are pink for multiples of 6.

15 Bead Work - Multiplication 3 w To multiply count the tickets until you get the multiplier. The number on the ticket is the product. w State the problem “x groups of 6 = “

16 Bead Work - Multiplication 4 w Using the bead paper, write the answer for each of the problems.

17 Materials - Multiplication Facts w Chains of Montessori beads – 10 per chain. w George used the back of his Markerboard for his beads, and a clip board for the bead paper. w Use the Bead Paper for both multiplication and division facts.

18 Bead Work - Division 1 w To do division: Find the ticket that contains the dividend. Mark it with a finger Count the number of groups before it. w State the problem: “How many groups of 6 are there in x? “

19 Bead Work - Division 2 w Remove the ticket and place it near the sheet. This insures that the student keeps his/her place, and allows for re-counting. w Say the problem while writing it on the sheet.
