Hanita Contribution Grenoble, 11.9.2014 Annex65 Kick-off Meeting Hanita Coatings - Dr Yoash Carmi Grenoble, September 2014

Agenda Hanita – short description Some of the challenges relevant to Annex65 Meeting these challenges – Hanita’s capabilities Hanita’s suggested contribution to Annex65

Hanita Coatings offers 30 years’ expertise developing engineered polymeric films Converter of plastic films since 1983, focused on energy efficiency solutions - VIP, solar control window films, PV Headquarters, R&D, and manufacturing in Israel 195 staff, 10% R&D, 8 overseas sales offices

Hanita offers a unique range of capabilities and processes under one roof

Challenges facing Annex65 How do we determine and correctly measure steady state ageing mechanisms? λ vs.P – To have an accurate link between the thermal conductivity and the pressure for any core material (fast and easy to perform technique) How do we deal with short term phenomena such as outgassing, absorption, solid thermal conductivity? The effect of the panel dimensions on its degradation rate. Flame retardant issues. Life Time Calculator – how do we accurately predict the thermal behavior of panels along their service life (λ vs. t)? Fumed silica cores – Accurate dependency of TC on percent of moisture absorbed (easier to perform and faster techniques)

Steady state permeation and short term phenomena Pressure increase rate vs. time (days) inside fiberglass panel determined by measuring the thermal conductivity (ambient conditions)

λ vs. P curves of 5 different fumed silica cores

λ vs. P curves of 7 different fiberglass cores

Life time calculator – typing in the VIP parameters as installed in the refrigerator Envelope types (the same laminate on both sides or hybrid)Hybrid In case of hybrid the laminate facing the warm sideV08311P In case of hybrid the laminate facing the cold sideV08621 Pressure in mbar right after evacuation0.05 VIP Thickness [mm]12 VIP Length (m)0.4 VIP Width (m)0.6 Average storage temperature [°C] before operating the refrigerator20 Average relative humidity [%] during storage90 Storage duration [months]12 Temperature at the cold wall during operation5 Temperature at the warm surface during operation20 Panel's thermal conductivity at the end of life [mW/ m·K]10 Maximum moisture absorption by the desiccant [% of mass]30

λ effective of the panel along the refrigerator lifetime Effective thermal conductivity along fridge service life

Meeting the challenges – Hanita’s capabilities R2R production lines for ultra high barrier films Lab Vacuum Chamber for VIP production Two LaserComp TC measurement units mVIP and RGA systems λ vs P measuring unit Liftoff pressure measurement unit (based on EMPA technique)??

The mVIP system (direct pressure measurement Benefits: 100% vacuum tight connection to envelope Resolution better than 10 -4 mbar Enables sample preparation within minutes Allows continuous pressure measurement Allows easy RGA analysis of gas content

The λ vs P system ( 24 hours to complete λ vs. P curve) Can be used also to determine the relation between % of moisture content and TC for fumed silica cores
