3. 3 What is SBSRv4.0? SBSR v4.0 is a software application that: has been developed by DET can ensure compliance with DET policy on reporting to parents* is web-based and can be used from any computer with internet access and appropriate browser is available free to government schools * Note: Version 3.0 (released 16 October 2006) requires use of A-E scale. Version 3.1 (available 6 November 2006) will allow use of either A-E scale or word descriptors. Version 3.2 available Feb 2007, Version 3.3 July 2007 Version 3.4 Feb 2008 and Version 4 2 nd March 2009

4. 4 Why develop SBSR? SBSR has been developed to assist government schools to prepare their reports to parents. Use of the SBSR software will allow: The creation of reports that meet the particular needs of K, 1-6 and 7-12 The production of a consistent report format to parents School effort to be minimised Teacher access from home and school

5. 5 Process for Using SBSRv4.0 Authorise use of SBSR Principal (or delegate) uses the Access Management Utility (AMU) found on the “My application” tab of the DET Portal Create a curriculum offer for your school. Link Learning Areas to curriculum offer Curriculum Offer Manager ensures; DET curriculum is customised to meet school requirements where policy allows. A curriculum offer exists for each year cohort. Learning activities are linked to curriculum offer.

6. 6 Process for Using SBSRv4.0 Check ERN for accuracy & link school courses to curriculum offer, teachers and students ERN Student Administrator to check or create school courses. These courses are to be linked to the appropriate curriculum offer, teacher/s and students. ERN groups to be created for ESL and learning adjustment and ‘other activities’ Create reporting period/s and import from ERN SBSR School Coordinator enters data about: reporting template to be used reporting dates Social development and commitment to learning tables use of an effort meter and general comment how attendance is reported.

7. 7 Process for Using SBSRv4.0 Customise reports for ESL and Learning Adjustment students; Manage Students SBSR Year Coordinator checks reporting groups for accuracy selects printing options for ESL and Learning Adjustment groups sets Reporting Groups status to “Available” Teachers complete reports. Data entry can be by either course or student Enter achievement and KLA / subject comments

8. 8 Process for Using SBSRv4.0 Summary reports available to teachers and supervisors to finalise reports. Other Activities table to be completed. Reports “Set for final approval” Approve and print Reports Reports can be generated by: Student Class Year Cohort Reports downloaded to school for printing Review reports

9. 9 SBSRv4 software has been developed by the DET and is free to government schools Access to the software is available directly from the internet or via a link in the DET Portal SBSR4.0 is a web based application and requires no installation or backup by schools. It is accessible, from any web-based computer, to those teachers who have been authorised as users by their principals Software can be run from any Macintosh or PC that is connected to the internet by an appropriate browser Features of SBSRv4.0 – Web Based

10. 10 There are a number of reporting templates available to schools (A to E or descriptors) Options exist within SBSR to customise reports for ESL and Learning Adjustments students for Years K, 1-6, and 7-12.) 11. 11 Total integration with ERN - changes within ERN will automatically appear within SBSR. Software dynamically extracts school reporting setup information (including teacher and students names and classes) Features of SBSRv4.0 - Imports from ERN

12. 12 Integration with ERN and Curriculum Reference Database allows schools to customise their learning areas (where policy permits) and link them to multiple classes Features of SBSRv4.0 – Learning Areas can be linked to multiple curses

13. 13 Teachers can choose the ‘inactivity timeout’ when using SBSR via the portal. Default school can be set where teachers are required to complete reports for more than one school Options given for warning sound used within the software. Features of SBSRv4.0 - Teacher preferences

14. 14 Integration with ERN allows students to be moved or added to various customised school grouping quickly and easily. Students can be quickly transferred to ESL or Learning Adjustment groups Features of SBSRv4.0 - Provides flexibility in Student Management

15. 15 Students can be automatically assigned to various ‘other activities’ groupings on the SBSR student report. Software can also allow for teachers to individually identify students for other activities if required. Features of SBSRv4 - Management of ‘Other Activities’

18. 18 A variety of specialised reports can be generated from the software including a Peer Comparison Report (number of A to E’s awarded per year per KLA) and Progress reports (number of reports incomplete). Summary reports are also available to teachers to review data entered. The Reviewer can view information by student or class. Features of SBSRv4.0 - Provides a range of User Reports

19. 19 SBSR will generate student reports individually, as a class group, as a year cohort or as a whole school All reports requested from SBSR can be downloaded or sent as an email at any time. They are stored permanently. Features of SBSRv4.0 - Allows a range of printing options

20. 20 Extensive Support for SBSRv4.0 Online help is available within the software consisting of role defined Quick Reference Guides ITD Help Desk will support the software on 1800 338 483 Regional Support teams have been established in all regions to provide training and assistance where required. Software can be remotely supported allowing for issues to be dealt with quickly by support staff

21. 21 Authority to use SBSRv4.0 Users’ permissions within the software are provided by the principal or delegate authorising SBSRv4.0 roles. This process requires the principal to use the Access Management Utility (AMU) which is located in their ‘My Applications’ tab within the DET portal
