3 The Decision Making Process The five steps are - State the situation. List all possible choices. Consider all the consequences. Make your decision and act on it. Evaluate your decision.

4 Apply the decision making steps to the following situation. Write the answers in your journal.

5 The Car You want to buy a car. Your neighbor has one for sale.

10 III. CONSEQUENCES - YES You must spend your money for - Car Sales Tax Licensing Insurance General Maintenance

11 IV. CONSEQUENCES - YES A. How will you pay for the car? - You may have to work to pay for the car.

12 V. CONSEQUENCES - YES A. How will your school work be affected? You will have less time to study

13 VI. CONSEQUENCES - YES A. How will your leisure time be affected? You will have less leisure time.

14 VII. CONSEQUENCES - NO You will be able to save more money to buy a better car. You will have more money to spend on clothes, concerts, CDs and fun. You will have more leisure time.

15 VIII. DECISION YES ? NO?

16 IX. EVALUATION - YES If you buy the car, what factors would you use to evaluate your purchase?

17 X. EVALUATION -YES How well the car performs. How the purchase affected your lifestyle. Were there any “hidden costs?” Would you make the same decision? What would you do differently?

18 XI. EVALUATION - NO If you do not buy the car, what factors would you use to evaluate your decision?

19 XII. EVALUATION - NO Would you make the same decision if you had the chance? Are you working toward the day when you will buy a car?

20 XIII. DECISION Which decision would you make ?

21 REMEMBER SOME DECISIONS WILL BE GOOD! SOME DECISIONS WILL BE BAD!

Each slide is self explanatory, but the teacher should run through the lesson prior to presenting it to the class
