3 Course Content  Review and Geography  Founding of America  A Growing Nation  The Constitution  Industrialization  The Progressive Era  U.S. Foreign Policy to 1919  The Twenties  The Great Depression/New Deal  World War in Europe  United States and World War II  Cold War/Post War Boom  New Frontier/Great Society  Civil Rights Movement  Vietnam War  Age of Limits  Conservative Tide  The USA Today Semester I Semester II American History

4 Grading  Mandatory course for graduation  Pass with “C” or higher in order to be accepted by both Cal State and UC colleges.  Earn less than “C” must retake the course before attending a four-year university. American History

5 Grading  Daily assignments/Homework – 30 % of grade  Research/Projects – 20 % of grade  Tests/Quizzes – 30 % of grade  Cumulative Final – 20% American History

6  Grades on Synergy Weighted & calculated cumulatively throughout the semester.  Students should always hold on to ALL handed-back graded material until the end of the year. Cumulative final Fall Semester and Yearly cumulative final Spring Semester. American History

7  If student absent, student’s responsibility to ask for make-up assignments immediately upon return to class.  Illness = 2 days for each day missed  Missed test or quiz: student’s responsibility to set date and time with teacher to make-up.  Not allowed to make-up any class work or tests after an unexcused absence  Plagiarism and any other forms of cheating will not be tolerated  PUSD Academic Honesty Policy followed American History

8 Homework = 30% of grade  Fast paced class, 1 chapter/week  Students need text book and Internet  Hand-written due to cheating  Check web-site daily for homework  May include assignment sheets to bring to class the next day American History

9 Cell Phones  Student handbook  If cell phone out during class: Bag it, Tag it, No Nag Confiscated and turned over to the Administrative Office Parent must come to school to retrieve Illegal to video or take picture w/t permission American History

10 Helping Students Succeed  Correction of tests during ELP time, for a return of 50% point return on corrections  Random, extra credit assignments offered  3 – ring binder with dividers, or something similar to keep organized  ELP time = test corrections, term lists, projects/worksheets (no sitting, talking, using cell phone, or sleeping) American History

11 How can your child be successful?  Come to class prepared.  Complete and turn in homework assignments = 30% of grade  Empty seat = absent  Apply self and stay on task daily  Ask for clarification  Take good notes  Respect classmates and teacher  Be certain he/she has a “Study Buddy ” American History
