IMPORTANT ELECTRONIC TERMS

Voltage "V" A measure of electrical potential, it is measured in volts A measure of the pressure under which electricity flows The force which pushes electricity through a wire. Consider the maximum voltage, and the units!!??

Important Notes. Meters usually need to be connected to plus + minus correctly. Red terminal to positive, black to negative Ammeters are connected in series (the current flows through them) Voltmeters are connected across the component to "sample" the voltage. See diagram

Current "I" The flow of electrons through a material. It is measured in amps A continuing flow of charged particles Flow of electrons in or on a conductor or through a gas or space, from an area of greater potential to an area of lesser potential.

Resistance "R" A measurement of properties which limit the ability of a substance to conduct electricity Resistance against a conductor passing a flow of electricity. Electric resistance: a material's opposition to the flow of electric current; measured in ohms

Usually Engineers and technicians use a digital multimter as shown here

MULTI meter DC VOLTAGE 200V MAXIMUM

MULTI meter AC VOLTAGE 750V MAXIMUM

MULTI meter Resistance Range 20K or 20,000 ohms max Red test lead Black negative test lead

Wattage "W" A watt is a measurement of total electrical power. Volts x amps = watts. Watts is the measurement of the amount of electrical power drawn by the load. The unit measurement of electric power. Voltage times amperage (VxA = W). If you use one watt of energy for one hour, you have used one watt-hour of electricity.Generally, electricity consumption is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). One kilowatt-hour is equal to 1000 watt-hours. Its a measure of how much electrical energy has changed into another form, light, heat sound etc
