DESIGN BRIEF

Wurzer, Lorenz, Popov: „NetLogo Workshop (Part I1)“, in eCAADe 2012 Prague, Slide 6Introduction Current changes in New Zealand’s Government Policy combined with the rapid population growth in Auckland have pressed many farmers along the coast to sell their farms for new residential development.

Wurzer, Lorenz, Popov: „NetLogo Workshop (Part I1)“, in eCAADe 2012 Prague, Slide 7 Site Location, Conditions and Context The site is located in peri-urban Auckland, approximately 30 km Northeast of the city centre. The current usage is diary farming. The site is adjacent to protected natural forests on North and South, bay with a beautiful beach on the East, and major road on the West.

Wurzer, Lorenz, Popov: „NetLogo Workshop (Part I1)“, in eCAADe 2012 Prague, Slide 8 Further Context There is a new low- density residential subdivision on the other side of the road. The current land cover is low- producing grassland. There is no infrastructure present.

Wurzer, Lorenz, Popov: „NetLogo Workshop (Part I1)“, in eCAADe 2012 Prague, Slide 9Simplified 1 km 750 m

Wurzer, Lorenz, Popov: „NetLogo Workshop (Part I1)“, in eCAADe 2012 Prague, Slide 10Requirements To design low-density residential subdivision of stand-alone houses that is ecologically neutral. Overland flow-paths and steep slopes have been identified as the most important constraints for development. Easy pedestrian access to the beach and vehicular access to the adjacent road should also be considered. Opportunities for development are flat areas with views to the ocean and/or native forests. The location and orientation of houses should take into account the topography and girded layouts should be avoided. The future residents are considered to be families with children that will commute to work.
