13 End of the Soviet Union Boris Yeltsin and thousands of Russians resisted the rebel forces in Moscow They get full independence! December 1991 – the Soviet Union is no longer  Russia is back! Gorbachev resigns and turns over his presidential office to Yeltsin Yeltsin is now the president of Russia By 2000 Vladimir Putin replaced Yeltsin Boris Yeltsin and thousands of Russians resisted the rebel forces in Moscow They get full independence! December 1991 – the Soviet Union is no longer  Russia is back! Gorbachev resigns and turns over his presidential office to Yeltsin Yeltsin is now the president of Russia By 2000 Vladimir Putin replaced Yeltsin
