These are triploblastic,bilaterally symetrical, metamerically segmented animals Body is covered by a thick chitinous cuticle forming an exoskeleton. Body segments have jointed legs. Distinct cephalization. The Head has a pair of compound eyes. Each compound eye is made up of Several sub-units called Ommatidia

The body is divided into head, muscular foot and visceral mass. The body is covered by a mantle and a shell. Respiration is effected by gills.

18 ECHINODERMATA They are Marine organism. The Adults are radially symmetrical but the larva shows bilateral symmetrical. Presence of water vascular system. Locomotion is effected by tube feet. The body surface has several spines.
