3 2013-2014 HOSA Year – 1,230 members 2014-2015 HOSA Year – 1,369 members California HOSA Florida HOSA Georgia HOSA Tennessee HOSA

4 Students in grades 6-8 who have not been promoted to a secondary institution (grades 9-12) prior to the state’s annual conference.

5 - Chapter Advisor could be a health teacher, PE teacher, science teacher, school nurse, other faculty member, etc. - Obtain Charter Number and password from the National HOSA Office

6 - Minimum of 5 members and 1 Chapter Advisor must affiliate - Have a secondary HOSA Chapter “adopt” a middle school chapter - Outside of Classroom Chapter with school-sanctioned adult

7 - $10 National Due - Your State Association Due

8 - 3 states have laws providing for youth board members (MI, MN, NY) - 7 states have laws prohibiting youth board members (CO, FL, GA, NV, NJ, PA, UT) - 40 states and the District of Columbia are silent

9 Are your State Officers considered members of your Board of Directors? Transportation issues Parental considerations

10 - The middle school events offered this year will follow the same guidelines as secondary/postsecondary events with no changes. - Events will be added as membership warrants.

12 Area/Regional/State Conferences - Could be separate or in conjunction with secondary/postsecondary - Top 3 in each event from SLC advance to NLC

13 National Leadership Conference - Middle school members will attend during the same time-frame as secondary/postsecondary members

14 National Leadership Conference - In order for a middle school event to be run at the NLC, a minimum of 3 states and 3 competitors must be entered.

15 Possible Additions (as membership warrants): MRC Partnership, Extemporaneous Writing, Medical Photography, Researched Persuasive Speaking, Community Awareness, Medical Innovation, Public Service Announcement, and/or MRC Volunteer Recognition

16 Possible Additions (as membership warrants): Medical Reading, CERT Skills, CPR/First Aid, Interviewing Skills, Job Seeking Skills, Biomedical Debate, Creative Problem Solving, HOSA Bowl, Parliamentary Procedure, and/or Health Care Issues Exam

17 - National HOSA CE Staff will evaluate additional events and determine applicability to the Middle School Program.
