2 Membership Continued growth in NZFMA membership – Takanini Stock Feeds Ltd – approved today Four new Associate members – AgriHealth, Fertco Ltd, Formula Foods Instrumentation and Wilbur-Ellis (NZ) Ltd – approved today Associate members – now 25 Category A members – now 7 Category B members – now 22

3 Statistics NZFMA statistics are an important element Review of current programme undertaken; a new system to be implemented which will enable data to be imported directly into database Improved data interpretation New statistics on cotton seed importation

4 Statistics Plant proteins – Were broken down into peas, soya meal, copra and palm kernel – Now includes canola, cotton seed, sunflower meal etc.

5 Finances 2012 audited accounts show NZFMA equity at 31 July 2012 to be $149,883 – up $9,700 over 2011 Solid financial position will enable investment in industry training, statistics review and website upgrade

6 MPI Animal Feeds Review MPI undertaking comprehensive overview – Imports – Rendered product – Exports – NZ consumption Particular focus on – Regulatory framework – Information from MPI A work in progress!

7 Faba Beans NZFMA and Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) worked for 3 years on project to improve value of faba beans to farmers and consumers A potential alternative to soya as a protein source Faba beans are seen as an excellent break crop for arable growers

8 Code of Practice Audit External audit of manufacturing practices NZFMA Board supports concept Working with AsureQuality to develop – 34 mill sites NZFMA has, and will, fund development process Companies to fund audit visit costs Proactive approach applauded by MPI

9 Website A review of the NZFMA website is being considered Information for 4 sectors – members, customers, regulators and media Want to ensure navigation and site hierarchy is optimal for users Social media options also to be looked at

10 ACC - industry accident benchmarking Health and Safety a topic of Government review Office has obtained analysis of ACC injury issues in grain mill manufacturing over last 5 years NZFMA considering option of industry benchmarking of lost time injury rates Sharing knowledge on accident prevention – making work sites safer places to work

11 Industry Training A review of course content undertaken to make as relevant as possible to NZ conditions Discussions underway on improved online resources NZFMA commitment shown by funding support Trainee of the Year Award to be initiated

12 Labelling NZFMA talking with MPI Compliance re enforcement of labelling Need industry feedback on product not labelled correctly Communication with retail outlets on labelling requirements

13 Industry Improvement Recent study by Dairy NZ looked at profitability of dairy farms Study has some interesting messages for all business Key features of top quartile of farms: – Benchmarking – Networking – Monthly or more regularly budgeting against expenditure – Purchasing only what is required (more important and valuable than searching for cheapest options)

14 Industry Improvement NZFMA keen to get feedback on opportunities to work on assistance re benchmarking and networking Budget analysis – work with Auckland University Business School Thank you
