1 Finding Volumes of Prisms
EXAMPLE 1 Find the volume of the prism. a. Base is a rectangle with area lw. V = Bh = lwh = 12(8)(2) = 192 ANSWER The volume is192 cubic inches.

2 Finding Volumes of Prisms
EXAMPLE 1 b. 1 Base is a triangle with area bh. 2 V = Bh (4)(3)(10) 1 2 = = 60 ANSWER The volume is 60 cubic meters.

3 Finding the Volume of a Cylinder EXAMPLE 2
Find the volume of the cylinder. SOLUTION The radius is one half the diameter, so r = 3 cm. V = Bh Write formula for volume. = πr2h Write formula for volume of a cylinder. = π(3)2(9) Substitute 3 for r and 9 for h. = 81π Simplify. Evaluate using a calculator.

4 Finding the Volume of a Cylinder
EXAMPLE 2 ANSWER The volume is about 254 cubic centimeters.

5 GUIDED PRACTICE for Examples 1 and 2 Find the volume of the solid. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary. ANSWER The volume is 198 cubic feet.

6 GUIDED PRACTICE for Examples 1 and 2 2. ANSWER The volume is 288 cubic millimeters.

7 GUIDED PRACTICE for Examples 1 and 2 3. ANSWER The volume is about 70.7 cubic inches
