Paving a smooth road to gaining YOUR Excellence. Key tips and tricks

 Knowing what you’ve got and what you need saves you a lot of energy better spent NOT stressing. Refer to a credit chart or “brick wall” Keep track of your credits!

 If you don’t get something or want confirmation that you’re on the right track JUST ASK, teachers are normally more than happy to help, plus it shows how you can take control of your own learning Ask Questions

 Time management is key to achieving excellence in all subjects. Remember: every subject is equal in importance – all contribute to excellence. Homework timetables are SUPER helpful. Manage your time wisely

 Everybody needs to take out time to relax! Taking time out ensures you won’t burn out. Try to reward yourself fairly for doing hard work. Balance work and play

 Make the most of every opportunity! I know its cheesy but, practice really DOES make perfect. The more practice you do outside of class, the easier understanding different concepts will be. Homework and Tutorials

 Some subjects will offer you a Further Assessment Opportunity (FAO). Use this opportunity to try and improve your A or M grade to an E!  FAOs are listed on your Assessment Statements. Use reassessment opportunities

 Brainstorm with those around you what students who get excellence do (and maybe what they don’t do…) What excellence students do

 These are 16 habits of successful learners that describe what intelligent people do when confronted with problems that do not have obvious solutions or answers.  They were derived by Art Costa and Bena Kallick and are a very useful description of what students aiming for excellence should be using and developing as they learn.  Did you have any on your list on page 2? Habits of Mind

 Which ones (if any?) did you have in your brainstorm??

 Assess yourself against each of the 16 Habits of Mind on the questionnaires that follow. They have been organised into the following sub categories:  Self Management  Critical Thinking  Creative Thinking  Relating to Others  After you have completed each page write one or two goals for that sub category in the space on Page 8.  Learning Strategy: Highlight any words you don’t understand – making learning these a goal! Self Review
