4 Research: Polymer Composite Fuel Cell Bipolar Plates PIs: Julie King (Chem Eng MTU) and Jason Keith Goal: Investigate use of multiple carbon fillers in polymers to improve bipolar plate (occupies largest volume in the fuel cell) properties Funded by National Science Foundation Grant Opportunities for Liason with Industry (GOALI) with Dana Corporation as the industrial partner ($300 K); Department of Energy (~$300 K) Properties – Thermal conductivity – Electrical conductivity – Tensile properties – Flexural properties – Rheology (w/ Faith Morrison) Model of transient plane source method for thermal conductivity CACHE Trustees Meeting – August 2009 – Boulder, Colorado
