Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the L ORD, our Maker! Psalm 95:6-8a Call to Worship

For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.

And can it be that I should gain an int’rest in the Savior’s blood? Text: Charles Wesley Music: Thomas Campbell And Can It Be

Died he for me, who caused his pain? For me, who him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

’Tis mystery all: th’Immortal dies: who can explore his strange design?

In vain the firstborn seraph tries to sound the depths of love divine.

’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore, let angel minds inquire no more.

Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, fast bound in sin and nature’s night;

thine eye diffused a quickening ray— I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;

my chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in him, is mine;

alive in him, my living head, and clothed in righteousness divine,

bold I approach th’eternal throne, and claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Prayer of Invocation

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one— to his own way; and the L ORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6 Call to Confession of Sin

God of mercy, you are full of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger, rich in mercy, and always ready to forgive. We confess that we have sinned against you, and have clung to evil rather than to Christ. Confession of Sin

Have mercy on us, and forgive our sin. Restore us to newness of life, and seat us at your table of grace, that we may feast with delight on all that satisfies the hungry heart; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Silent confession)

Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:4-5 Assurance of Forgiveness

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

May the peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2 Offering

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Text: Thomas Ken (1674) Music: “Old 100 th ” / Genevan Psalter / Louis Bourgeois (1551) The Doxology Public Domain CCLI License #11109756

… The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! Proverbs 24:17-29 Old Testament Reading

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray… Prayers of the People

O Lord, we cry out to you for the Church: Particularly for our sister churches in the Pacific Northwest Presbytery.

O Lord, we cry out to you for all the people of the earth: We pray for those who do not know you; we pray that your gospel would run in our city; we pray that your fame and glory would spread here and throughout the world.

O Lord, we cry out to you for our own nation: Please give our President humility, wisdom, strength and trust in you. Please bless our Governor and our Mayor; please bring prosperity and peace to our city through your gospel.

O Lord, we cry out to you for the poor and suffering of our community: We pray for those who are living on the streets. We pray for those who are discouraged and suffering in depression. We pray for those who are struggling financially. We pray for those who are sick or facing imminent death and for those who care for them.

O Lord we cry out to you with our individual concerns and needs… (Silent prayer) All of these things we ask of you in the name of your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray saying:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God’s own Son, precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One. Text & Music: Melody Green There Is A Redeemer

Jesus my Redeemer, name above all names, precious Lamb of God, Messiah, O, for sinners slain.

Thank you, O my Father, for giving us your Son, and leaving your Spirit ’til the work on earth is done.

When I stand in glory, I will see his face, and there I’ll serve my king forever in that holy place.

Thank you, O my Father, for giving us your Son, and leaving your Spirit ’til the work on earth is done.

There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God’s own Son, precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee. Text: Reginald Heber (1826) Music: John Dykes (1861) Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee, though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,

only thou art holy; there is none beside thee perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All thy works shall praise thy Name in earth and sky and sea.

… The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Praise be to you, O Christ! Luke 6:27-36 Gospel Reading

What do you believe about Jesus Christ? He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15-20 Confession of Faith

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—

all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. Amen.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. (Greet one another with the words, “The peace of Christ be with you.”) Colossians 3:15 Passing of the Peace

Institution of the Lord’s Table

Let us proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. The gifts of God for the people of God. (The Mystery of Faith) Mysterium Fidei

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul! What wondrous love is this, O my soul! Text: American Folk Hymn Music: Southern Harmony What Wondrous Love Is This

What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, to bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down; when I was sinking down, sinking down.

When I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown, Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul; Christ laid aside his crown for my soul!

To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing; to God and to the Lamb I will sing.

To God and to the Lamb who is the great “I am,” while millions join the theme I will sing, I will sing; while millions join the theme I will sing!

And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on; and when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.

Jesus lives, and so shall I. Death! thy sting is gone forever! He who deigned for me to die lives, the bands of death to sever. Text: Christian Gellert Music: Matthew Curl Jesus Lives And So Shall I

He shall raise me from the dust: Jesus is my hope and trust!

He lives! Jesus lives! He lives! and so shall I!

Jesus lives, and reigns supreme, and, his kingdom still remaining, I shall also be with him, ever living, ever reigning.

God has promised, be it must: Jesus is my hope and trust!

He lives! Jesus lives! He lives! and so shall I!

Jesus lives, and by his grace, vict’ry o’er my passions giving, I will cleanse my heart and ways, ever to his glory living.

Me he raises from the dust: Jesus is my hope and trust!

He lives! Jesus lives! He lives! and so shall I!

Jesus lives, I know full well, naught from him my heart can sever, life nor death, nor pow’rs of hell, joy nor grief, henceforth forever.

None of all his saints is lost: Jesus is my hope and trust!

He lives! Jesus lives! He lives! and so shall I!

Jesus lives, and death is now but my entrance into glory. Courage, then, my soul, for thou hast a crown of life before thee;

thou shalt find thy hopes were just: Jesus is my hope and trust!
