1 Would you like to receive a language qualification accredited by the OCR? Information for the students of Arabic, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian and Turkish

2 Why choose Asset languages? Nationally recognized OCR qualification. Specifically designed to recognise and reward your achievements in language learning. Opportunity to be examined in either all four skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing - or only one, two or three skills. Flexible speaking test arrangements to fit in with your timetable.

3 What does the speaking test consist of? The speaking test involves: A conversation on a chosen topic A dialogue based on a visual prompt A short 2-3 minutes presentation on a topic chosen by the candidate. The speaking test lasts between 7 and 15 minutes depending on the level.

4 What do the reading, writing and listening tests consist of? Reading & listening: Multiple choice, matching, or close exercises based on listening and reading passages. Each test lasts between 20 and 50 minutes (depending on the entry level). Writing: The examination is in two parts and is based on visual or textual prompts. It lasts between 20 and 60 minutes (depending on the level).

5 Which levels are available? Asset languages are available in the following levels: Breakthrough: grades 1-3 Preliminary: grades 4-6 Intermediate: grades 7-9 Advanced: grades 10-12

6 Which level should I enter? Your tutor will advise you which Asset examination is appropriate for your current level. As a rough guide: Breakthrough: for those who have completed two or three terms of Beginners course or two terms of False Beginners course Preliminary: for those who have completed False Beginners or level 2 Intermediate: for those who have completed level 3 Advanced: for those who have completed level 4

7 How much do I need to pay? Examination fees: Breakthrough - £45 for 4 skills or £12 per skill Preliminary - £55 for 4 skills or £15 per skill Intermediate - £58 for 4 skills or £16 per skill Advanced - £72 for 4 skills or £20 per skill

8 When do examinations take place? The Asset Language examinations at the MLC will take place on the following dates: Reading, writing, listening: Date - 19 th June 2012. Time - 16:00-19:00. Exams start promptly at 16:00 but will differ in length depending on level. Speaking : A mutually convenient time will be arranged between the dates of 6 th – 15 th June 2012.

9 How do I enrol for the examinations? Asset entry forms will be emailed to all students from the relevant languages in by March. The enrolment deadline for the exams is 27 th April 2012. Enrolments should be submitted with full payment for the exam fee. Fees can be paid by cheque or by card in person at the MLC office.

10 What do I do next? If you are interested in taking the Asset Language examination: Speak to your tutor over the coming months to identify the correct level for entry. Think about the skills you would like to be examined in. Wait for Asset exam enrolment to open apply by the deadline.
