2 Fox Foxes eat birds and other small animals Baby foxes are called kits or cubs. Foxes are mainly nocturnal. Their tail is always tipped with white. They live in underground homes called an ‘Earth’.

3 Squirrel There are 2 types of squirrel: red squirrels and grey squirrels. Their tail acts like a parachute and helps them to balance. They have really good eye-sight and sense of smell. They use their tail to communicate to each other.

4 Hedgehog Hedgehogs roll into a ball when they are scared. They are nocturnal. Hedgehogs eat mainly insects. They can climb trees and swim! They hibernate during the winter time.

5 Owl There are lots of different types of owls. They can turn their heads almost all the way around! Owls only hunt at night, they are nocturnal A baby owl is called an owlet or a fledgling. Owls eat small animals like mice.

6 Duck Ducks live in both fresh water and sea water. They have very strong wings and they fly a long way to find somewhere warm for the winter. Boy ducks are called ‘Drakes’ and girl ducks are called ‘Ducks’ Their feathers are waterproof.

7 Mouse Mice build their homes near where they can find food – they eat up to 20 times a day! They are good at climbing, jumping and swimming. Baby mice are called kittens or a pinky.

8 Badger Badgers are very shy nocturnal animals. They have powerful claws for digging. They have poor eye-sight but good senses of hearing and smell. Badgers can be vicious. They live in underground homes called a ‘Sett’.

9 Mole Moles have very bad eye-sight but a great sense of touch. They eat mainly worms and insects they find underground. They have very strong hands for digging tunnels. Mole hills are waste soil from digging or repairing burrows and tunnels.

10 Rabbit Wild rabbits live in a underground home called a warren. A baby rabbit is called a kit or a kitten. Rabbits can see behind them without moving their heads. Rabbits can jump very high. Rabbits can see very well in the dark.
