3 MISSION To provide policy direction for effective, efficient and safe operation of GRIDCo’s power transmission and vehicular assets, lead the drive to introduce new technologies, and also manage intellectual knowledge within the company

4 VISION To be the department of technical excellence, providing engineering and operational support to GRIDCo and other transmission utilities in the West African Sub-Region

5 STRUCTURE OF THE DEPARTMENT The Department is structured into five (5) sections namely;  Network Research & Innovations  Transmission Assets Management  Health & Safety Management  Knowledge Management & Documentation  Transport Management

7 STAFF STRENGTH The Department has a staff strength of forty four (44) employees. -Twenty Eight(28) employees in Tema -Sixteen (16) employees in Akosombo

8 STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES Research into new technologies in the maintenance and operation of power transmission equipment Provide technical support to engineering and operations departments in the area of design and maintenance of power system equipment Manage the performance of human and equipment safety in the company

9 STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE-CONT’D Monitor and coordinate the commissioning and maintenance of power system equipment to ensure adherence to laid down procedures Manage the intellectual knowledge, and also ensure the proper preservation of vital corporate information Manage the vehicular fleet of the company

10 ON-GOING ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES Coordinating the procurement of services for the Supply, Installation and Commissioning of Enterprise Assets Management System (EAMS) to manage the power transmission assets of the company Reviewing the protection systems based on recommendations from protection system studies conducted by Siemens of Germany

11 ON-GOING ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES- CONT’D ON-GOING ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES- CONT’D Development of an android mobile application that allows on-line monitoring of power system data on mobile devices anywhere in the world where internet connectivity is available (we are in the process of developing similar applications for Apple and Windows platforms)

12 ON-GOING ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES– CONT’D Collating transmission system equipment data in readiness for the EAMS implementation Exploring the introduction of live-line maintenance of transmission lines to reduce down time of lines during maintenance

13 ON-GOING ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES CONT’D Exploring the introduction of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for monitoring and inspection of transmission assets Facilitating the benchmarking of GRIDCo’s operational performance in relation to other transmission utilities in the world

14 ON-GOING ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES– CONT’D Working towards achieving compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements as the base standard for GRIDCo’s Safety Policy and Rules. Facilitating the training of key Safety Coordinators in Work locations in line with OSHA requirements.

15 ON-GOING ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES- CONT’D Facilitating the introduction of e-learning platforms in various technical disciplines for on-line training of staff Introducing systems for efficient utilization of fuel resources for the company’s fleet of vehicles by activating driver’s code and tank capacity features on tom cards

16 ON-GOING ACTIVITIES AND INITIATIVES- CONT’D Acquisition of a Fleet Management System Protection System Synchronization On-line Monitoring of Power System Equipment
