2 Would you want to bury your weapons if you knew you were in danger of attack?

3 The people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi knew their enemies were planning to kill them, but they had made a solemn covenant with Heavenly Father that they would not fight.

4 A gospel covenant is a binding agreement or promise between Heavenly Father and His children.

5 We will learn the story of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies to discover why they made this covenant and how they kept their promise.

6 The Anti-Nephi-Lehies
“Lesson 19: The Anti-Nephi-Lehies,” Primary 4: Book of Mormon, (1997),64 “The People of Ammon,” Book of Mormon Stories, Ch. 26

7 The sons of Mosiah taught the gospel to the Lamanites.
Thousands of Lamanites repented and joined the Church.

8 Those Lamanites who joined the Church called themselves Anti-Nephi-Lehies, or the people of Ammon.
They were good, hardworking people.

9 The Lamanites who did not repent were angry with the people of Ammon and prepared to fight them.

10 The people of Ammon knew that the wicked Lamanites would come to kill them but decided not to fight back. They had repented of killing.

11 They buried their weapons deep in the ground and promised God they would never kill again.

12 When the wicked Lamanites came and began killing them, they bowed to the ground and prayed.

13 Seeing that the people of Ammon would not fight back, many of the wicked Lamanites stopped killing them.

14 The Lamanites were sorry that they had killed.
They threw down their weapons and joined the people of Ammon. They would not fight anymore.

15 More Lamanites came to kill the people of Ammon.
They still would not fight back, and many were killed.

16 Not wanting the people he loved to be destroyed, Ammon prayed for help.
The Lord told him to take his people and leave the land.

17 The Nephites in Zarahemla gave Ammon and his people the land of Jershon and protected them.
They became friends.

38 Let’s review the Thirteenth Article of Faith:
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul — We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things. Your software may allow more than one music file format for the song on this slide. Did the people of Ammon live by the principles in the Thirteenth Article of Faith? How will living these principles help us keep our covenants? Enr. Act. 2

40 I testify that as members of Christ’s church, we have made sacred covenants.
We must honor our covenants if we want to receive the promised blessings.
