3. Places Janie visited: Janie returns to Eatonville. (Flashback begins) Janie’s destination is Eatonville. After the death of her husband (after years of abuse and neglect), she leaves and goes to Jacksonville. Janie and Tea Cake move to the Everglades. Tea Cake and Janie relocate to Palm Beach. After tragedy hits, Janie returns to Eatonville, without Tea Cake. What Janie did there: She recounts her life story to her best friend, Pheoby. Janie runs away with Joe Starks, gets married, and hopes to make their fortune there. While in Eatonville, Joe becomes highly manipulative and eventually becomes mayor. Janie marries Tea Cake and undergoes obstacles here. They found work in the Everglades and started a life. They relocate to Palm Beach because of a major storm. After a terrible accident (fight between the two caused by rabies) that killed Tea Cake, Janie returns in order to plant the sees that Tea Cake left behind.
