Proportions Practice This will help you understand proportions in word problems a bit more.

2 With Percent Proportions, Remember…
When you are trying to figure out how to set up your fractions look at the clues in the question.

3 Let’s look at an example…
What percent of 35 is 15? Which number is with the of? Which is with the is? The 35 is with the of, and the 15 is with the is. So this is how we set up our solution… Now solve it!

4 Try these… 14 is 25% of what number? What percent of 137 is 29?

5 Let’s Try Some Word Problems…

6 Brandon installed a devices on his dad’s car that guaranteed to increase his gas mileage by 15% He currently gets 22 miles per gallon. How much will the gas mileage increase after installing the device?

Gary’s soccer team played 25 games and won 17 of them. What percent did the team win?

9 Now for some Rates…

10 Remember with Rate… The units on the top and bottom of the fraction MUST be different: Example: When you make proportions, the same unite need to line up.

11 Here’s an example: During Danielle’s trip across the country, she traveled 2,884 miles in 7 days. How many miles did she travel in the first day? 2,884 miles on 7 days is our first rate so we need to make that a fraction. Make sure the unite we know lines up correctly and solve.
