Enlargement Aim: To enlarge shapes from a given centre of enlargement and scale factor. We have our original photo. And we increase its size by a factor of two.

Centre of enlargement First we measure the distance from centre of enlargement to each corner of shape. This measurement is 3 units. This measurement is 2 unit. This measurement now becomes 6 units. This measurement now becomes 4 units. Now we multiply our measurements by the scale factor..

Steps for enlargement: 1: Measure distance from centre of enlargement to corners of shape. 2: Multiply the distances by the scale factor. 3: Use these calculations to find the corners of the enlarged shape. 4: Join points to give the enlarged shape.

Centre of enlargement Enlarge the blue square by a factor of 2 from the given centre of enlargement.

Plenary B A How do we find the centre of enlargement for this pair of shapes? What is the scale of enlargement for this shape A to B? 18 units 6 units Draw lines joining the corners of the shape, and continuing till they cross. Divide the large measurement by the smaller measurement to give 18 ÷ 6 = 3 A A A
