QUESTIONNAIRES AIM: To understand what makes a good and bad question

Make the question easy to understand. Dont be vague with your question. E.G. Did you watch much TV last night? A better question gives tick box choices. How much TV did you watch last night? None Less than 1 hour 1-2 hours More than 2 hours

Make sure the question is not a leading question. E.G. Do you agree that Sunderland AFC is the best football team in the Championship? A better question is: In your opinion, which is the best football team in the Championship? Then give a list of teams for people to choose from.

Avoid asking personal or sensitive questions. Questions about age, weight or income can cause offence and/or embarrassment A way to get round this problem is: Tick one box for your age group. 15-17 18-20 21-30 31-50

Ask the easy questions first. Dont ask more questions than you need to.
