What organs are involved in the Nervous System?

Brain, spinal cord and nerves.

What are the three jobs of the Nervous System?

1. Receive information from the external environment 2. Respond to information 3. Maintain homeostasis

If you are reading a book, what part of your brain is helping you?

Your Cerebrum

A nerve impulse enters through the ___________ of the neuron.

Dendrite

What organs make up your central nervous system?

Brain and Spinal Cord

What organs are involved in the Circulatory System?

Heart, blood and blood vessels

What are the two jobs of the circulatory system?

Bring needed substances to cells, and to carry waste away from cells.

Your heart is a hollow ___________ that pumps blood your whole life.

Muscle

What are the four things that make up blood?

1. Red Blood Cells 2. White Blood Cells 3. Platelets 4. Plasma

List how blood flows through the body starting with the Right Atrium

Right atrium  Right Ventricle  Pulmonary Artery  Lungs  Pulmonary Vein  Left Atrium  Left Ventricle  Aorta  Body  Vena Cavas

What are the two jobs of the respiratory system?

Moves oxygen into the body and removes carbon dioxide and water.

How are your lungs able to take in so much oxygen?

Due to the large surface area of the alveoli.

What is the large muscle that controls your breathing?

Diaphragm

This is the part of the respiratory system that is shared with the digestive system, also known as your throat.

Pharynx

What is the process that allows the carbon dioxide in the blood to move into the alveoli and the oxygen to move into the blood?

Diffusion

Label the Parts of the Neuron. A B C D E

A. Dendrite B. Cell Body C. Nucleus D. Axon E. Axon Tip

What is the arrow pointing to?

The Trachea

What are the arrows pointing to? A B D C

A. Right Ventricle B. Right Atrium C. Left Atrium D. Pulmonary Artery

What are the arrows pointing to? A B C

A. Bronchi B. Alveoli C. Diaphragm

Label the Parts of the Brain A C B

A. Cerebrum B. Cerebellum C. Medulla (Brainstem)

What is the job of the ventricle?

Pump blood out of the heart

What is the name of the wall that separates the sides of the heart?

The septum

Describe how the circulatory system and respiratory system are related using the following words: alveoli, lungs, oxygen, carbon dioxide, capillary, heart, and body.

Example: When you inhale, you bring oxygen into your lungs. Inside the lungs, the alveoli fill with the oxygen. The capillaries that cover the alveoli contain blood high in carbon dioxide. The oxygen leaves the alveoli and enters the blood. The carbon dioxide leaves the blood and goes into the alveoli. The capillaries then carry the oxygen rich blood back to the heart to be pumped to the body. The carbon dioxide in the alveoli gets exhaled out of your body.

Describe how a nerve impulse travels through a neuron using the following words: dendrite, axon, axon tips, cell body, nerve impulse, neurotransmitter, synapse, dendrite of next neuron, electrical, chemical

A nerve impulse starts out in a dendrite. It then travels though the cell body and then into the axon. Then the impulse reaches the axon tips. In order to cross the synapse, neurotransmitters are released to change the impulse from electrical to chemical. The neurotransmitters go across the synapse and reach the dendrites of the next neuron. The impulse converts back to an electrical impulse and the impulse continues on.

Fill in the blanks. A ________________ starts in a sensory neuron. The impulse travels up to the brain through _______________. Then the nerve impulse travels to a _______________. The motor neurons send the impulse to a _____________ which then contracts.

A nerve impulse starts in a sensory neuron. The impulse travels up to the brain through interneurons. Then the nerve impulse travels to a motor neuron. The motor neurons send the impulse to a muscle which then contracts.
