3 Pre-school class 6 years old Voluntary 98% of all children attend the pre- school year. Start learning to read and write.

4 Primary and lower secondary education ”Folkeskolen” Form 1- 9 Age 7 – 16

5 Folkeskolen (7-16) 88% of a year group attend public schools 11% attend private schools. 1% are taught at home.

6 Folkeskolen (7-16 years old) Normal class size is 20 pupils. All starts at 8 a.m. The younger pupils finish around 1 p.m. The older pupils finish around 3 p.m.

7 Folkeskolen (7-16 years) Teaching is based on the individual pupil’s interests, qualifications and needs.

8 Youth education programmes (from 16 years) Vocational education and training –26 % complete trainingprogrammes –2-5 years theoretical + practical training

9 Vocational education and training –Prepare for a career in a specific trade or industry.

10 Upper secundary 50 % General upper secundary education (general gymnasium) 14 % Commercial upper secundary education (commercial gymnasium) 6 % Technical upper secundary education (technical gymnasium)

11 General gymnasium (16-19 years) –Prepare for higher education –50 % of the teenagers complete general gymnasium –Admission requires fine results from Folkeskolen –3 years

13 Exams Many different types of written and oral exams National standard

14 Universities (from 19 …or older). 3 years bachelor programme. + 2-years canidatus programmes + 3 years PhD- programmes.

15 University Access requires a certain level of grades. 52% move on to higher education. Financing: It is free!

16 To study at University Rent a room (alone) Or rent small flat (2-3 together)

17 To study at University You are paid from the Danish state to study (650 Euro pr. Month). You have to work to earn more money. You are an adult, and your parents don’t give you money!
