1 Chapter 1 Fractions Our Goals:
I will learn how to write equivalent fractions using equivalent forms of one. I will learn how to find the greatest common factor of two or more numbers. I will learn how to write fractions in simplest form. I will learn how to compare and order fractions and find their approximate locations on a number line.

What is a prime number? A whole number that can only be divided evenly by itself or one.

3 Sieve of Eratosthenes The Sieve of Eratosthenes is a chart that can help us easily identify prime numbers. Eratosthenes was a Greek scientific writer, astronomer and poet. He was born in 276 BC and died in 194.

4 Cross off the number 1.

5 Circle the number 2, it is our first prime number.
Cross out every even number after 2 because they are all divisible by 2.

6 Circle the number 3, it is our next prime number.
Cross out every third number because they are all divisible by 3.

7 Circle the number 5, it is our next prime number.
Cross out every number divisible by 5.

8 Circle the number 7, it is our next prime number.
Cross out every number divisible by 7.

9 Circle the remaining numbers, they are all prime.

Finding the prime numbers that are factors of the given number.

12 What does the term greatest common factor mean?
The greatest factor that two numbers have in common.
