3 Cross Channel Attack A. While the Americans and the British were crossing the Channel, the battle of Stalingrad was going on. This battle was the deadliest in military history it was the death to millions of people. It was fought between Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler. B. During that time the Americans and the British crossed the channel to German occupied France. C. Hitler held on to attacking Russia so, Russia would not become allies with the Allied Nations.

5 D-Day Commanders A. Omar N. Bradley [general] lead the Americans, Sir Miles Dempsey lead the second British Army. B. The plan was called “Operation Overload”. C. the plan was to break the Nazi’s hold on Western Europe.

7 Let’s Go! A. Years before Eisenhower gave the Let’ Go order. Commanders had secretly worked to plot every battle plan detail. B. Enemy artillery and land mines along the French coast would be deadly, but allies planners were sure that V-Bombs pilot less aircraft launched from the Pas-de- Calais area into southern England, including London would not be a factor during the invasion. C. Details of where the invasion would actually take place were kept secret until the last possible moment.

13 Utah Beach A. On June 6th the Americans land and get ready for an invasion. B. During the early phase of landings, German shells were fired and killed many Allied troops. C. Some Germans were captured on June 6 th but were temporarily kept in a barbed-wire enclosure. D. USS Bayfield was the U.S. flagship for the Utah Beach landings.

15 Omaha Beach A. Troops ferried to Omaha Beach and carried M1903’s, Rifles, and M1 Carbines. B. Reinforcements moved in land during the build up at Omaha beach known to some as “Tough Beach”. C. despite set back the Omaha beach assault troops achieved success although the outcome of their objectives was not clear by the end of June sixth. D. Thousands of Allies who attempted D-Day landings remained in France. The quiet of their final resting place tells us little of the horrors of their deaths.

Germany had 55 divisions in France, Allies could transport no more than 8 divisions on D-Day which was in France. C. More than 2 million, soldiers, sailors, and airmen were involved in “Operation Overload”. D. The United States transported 7 million tons of supplies to have war with Germany. E. 127 planes were lost on D-Day. F. By the end of the Normandy campaign 28,000 airmen were dead. G. 307 graves were marked “unknown” at D-Day.
