What is fiction? Fiction is fake ideas can be about real people but the details and events are made up by the writer read for fun
Types of Fiction Poetry Plays Narrative Text – Realistic fiction – Fairytale – Fantasy – Folktale – Historical fiction – Science fiction
What is non-fiction? What is the purpose of non-fiction writing? Non-fiction is not fake informs the reader about REAL events, people, places, and times OR tries to persuade the reader to see the author’s feelings or point of view Sometimes called INFORMATIONAL TEXT
Narrative (tells a true story) – diaries – biographies INFORMATIONAL (expository) – articles (newspapers, magazines…) – reference books (encyclopedias, almanac…) – textbooks Persuasive (promotes an opinion or feeling) – advertisements – editorial Everyday text – menus – coupons – directions – flyers Types of Non-Fiction
