CAREER - the paid and unpaid work you do during your lifetime It determines: How much $$ you have to spend Whom you interact with every day How much free time you have How you feel about your activities and accomplishments Remember your book title: Preparing for Career Success

Question: What is your current career dream? Question: Was your dream career always the same one you have now? Question: Why is there a difference?

Knowing your plans for your future is KEY How will you support yourself? Do you want to rely on others for the next several years? Question: What kind of lifestyle do you want? Question: What do you picture in 5 years? 10 years?

The Career Plan (do not write down) List your personal & career interests, natural abilities, job skills & values Establish short- and long-term goals with dates Locate & use occupational information Choose as many occupations as possible within your general career interest Narrow down your choices Develop a plan to acquire the education and training you will need Learn job-seeking & job-keeping skills Decide what sacrifices you are willing to make in order to fulfill your career plan

3 Types of People SUBMISSIVE – people who tend to be apologetic, indifferent, passive and yielding AGGRESSIVE – people who tend to be unfriendly, insulting, domineering, relentless and quarrelsome ASSERTIVE – people who tend to be persistent, understanding and cooperative
