1 RMD – QSP draft-bader-nsis-rmd-diffserv-qsm-01.txt A.Bader, L. Westberg, G. Karagiannis, C. Kappler, T. Phelan, H. Tschofenig IETF-61, Nov. 8, 2004

2 Updates in version -01 Title, Introduction –RMD-QSP: An NSIS QoS Signaling Policy for Networks Using Resource Management in Diffserv (RMD) –Example of on path Diffserv QoS signaling with NSIS, using stateless/red. state operation model of QoS-NSLP Detailed description: RMD QSpec and mapping of RMD parameters into QSpec Template parameters: –QSpec = QoS Descriptors + Control Info –QoS descriptor = –Control Info = PHR Control Info + PDR Control Info Message formats used in RMD-QSP

3 State management in interior nodes (stateless/red. state) –Measurement-based No reservation states No refresh is needed –Reservation-based Per PHB reservation state Reservations time-out or removed by explicit release –Reservation can be done either per micro-flow or for aggregated flows (with aggregated session ID) Basic operation examples: –Successful reservation –Unsuccessful reservation in interior node –Refresh –Release –Severe congestion (e.g. after re-routing) –Bidirectional operation

4 Open issues and next steps Extend Security Considerations section –Since there is tradeoff between simplified operation and security, it should be defined in more detail how security is supported in RMD Eliminate redundancies in the text Make sure that selection of D-mode for intra-domain messages works –No message association states, done by configuration –No routing states, indicated by NSLP Reduce the number of control information parameters Clean up terminology around RMD control information Align specification to “QSpec Template” draft
