4. Family He was the oldest of 11 children. Both of his parents had French. He was self taught.

5. His Mathematical Method By the age of 19 Lagrange was appointed to professor of math at the Royal Artillery School in Turin, Italy. This happened because Euler stated how impressed he was with Lagrange’s work on the tautochrone, which demonstrated his method of maxima and minima called “Calculus of Variation”. His discoveries had a very important part to do with the not yet know subject, Calculus.

6. Facts He received two offers to work at Berlin Academy. He accepted the offer and succeeded as the Director of Mathematics on November 6, 1766. After that he moved on to Paris Academy of Science where he stayed for the rest of his carreer.
