3 Principal School Level Orientation At the opening faculty meeting in August, review the DCS Teacher Evaluation Process Matrix Distribute NC Teacher Evaluation Process manuals to each classroom teacher

5 Self-Assessment Required of all classroom teachers Blank Rubrics to be used for Self-Assessment can be found on pages 21-30 of manual or on Human Resources section for this training page Teacher completes the Self-Assessment and brings it to discuss with an administrator no later than September 30. Self-Assessment document is for the teacher’s personal use Beginning Teachers will be required to send a copy to the BT Coordinator as documentation that they have completed their self-assessments

6 Professional Development Plan Required for all classroom teachers Teachers should refer to previous observations and summative evaluations to determine areas of professional growth Teacher must bring the completed PDP with the completed Self-Assessment to the Pre-Conference with an administrator

7 Monitored PDP’s If the administrator decides that the classroom teacher should be on a monitored PDP: –For Beginning Teachers being placed on monitored PDP’s, the administrator must contact Wendy Klutz (BT Coordinator) before developing the Intervention Plan –For all other teachers being placed on monitored PDP’s, the administrator must contact Julie Hamilton (Director of Human Resources) before developing the Intervention Plan –Leave the first page as it is, mark “Monitored” and write “Intervention Plan” below the check –These plans should be attached to the PDP

10 Directed PDP’s If the administrator decides that the classroom teacher should be on a Directed PDP: –For Beginning Teachers being placed on directed PDP’s, the administrator must contact Wendy Klutz (BT Coordinator) before developing the Action Plan –For all other teachers being placed on directed PDP’s, the administrator must contact Julie Hamilton (Director of Human Resources) before developing the Action Plan –Leave the first page as it is, mark “Directed” and write “Action Plan” below the check –These plans should be attached to the PDP

13 Conferences for Probationary Teachers Pre-Observation Conference with Administrator is required before any observations are conducted to discuss –Self Assessment –PDP –Written Lesson Plan (1 st lesson to be observed) Post-Conferences are required within ten days for ALL observations

14 Conferences for Career Teachers in Formal Year of Evaluation (On-Year) Pre-Observation Conference with Administrator is required before any observations are conducted to discuss –Self Assessment –PDP –Written Lesson Plan (1 st lesson to be observed) Post-Conferences are required within ten days for ALL observations

15 Conferences for Career Teachers in Off-Years of Formal Evaluation Conference with Administrator is required to discuss –Self Assessment –PDP

16 Observations for Probationary Teachers Four Formal Observations –45 Minutes/1 Complete Lesson –3 by Administration (1 st must be announced) –1 by Peer Beginning Teachers will be observed by their assigned mentor Other Probationary teachers will be observed by a peer who has already been trained as a mentor and has had experience observing peers

17 Observations for Career Teachers in Formal Year of Evaluation (On-Year) Three observations –1 st must be formal/announced (45 minutes/1 complete lesson) –Others can be formal or informal/unannounced (20 minutes) –Observe the standards that have been identified in the PDP or are areas of concern

18 Observations for Career Teachers in Off-Years of Formal Evaluation None required HOWEVER, do not forget that the principal has the right to observe any teacher at any time

19 Final Documentation Probationary Teachers- Summary Rating Form and Completed PDP Career Teachers in On-Year Evaluation- Summary Rating Form and Completed PDP Career Teachers in Off-Year Evaluation- Completed PDP

20 Required Record of Teacher Evaluation Activities Administration completes a copy for each teacher based on which documents were completed and conferences were held –Staple a copy to the top of the evaluation documents kept in teacher files at the school –Send originals of Record of Teacher Evaluation Activities and all completed evaluation documents to: Wendy Klutz for Beginning Teachers by the dates required on the Beginning Teacher Tracking Chart Andy Smith in Human Resources by June 15 for all other teachers

21 Training Training for Peer Observers will be conducted by HR Staff Wendy Klutz will train new teachers to Davidson County Schools: –Beginning Teachers –Teachers who have not had training in North Carolina’s New Teacher Evaluation Process
