2 Student Page Top Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Teacher page Credits Introduction You are a junior/ senior in high school and are filling out college/technical school applications. Since you are undecided, you need to choose a major or trade and report on the importance of mathematics for that area. Your audience will be the school’s career liaison as well as your math class which is eager to learn why they need to know the math that they are learning in school. You will need to create a presentation that engages and informs your classmates in the importance of math and your chosen career.

3 Student Page Top Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Teacher page Credits The Task You will need to create a 5-7 minute presentation that will persuade the 9th grade students the importance of mathematics in your career area and its relevance in everyday life. To support this presentation, one of the following products must be developed: Brochure/Flyer: You will create a career brochure or flyer using Microsoft Publisher. The brochure/flyer must include the areas listed in step 2. Be sure to also include interesting information that the reader may want to know. PowerPoint: You will create a PowerPoint presentation on the career that you have chosen that points out the key topics (see step 2) of the mathematical skills used in that field. You must include note pages to support each slide. Podcast: You are a radio reporter for the Career Network. Develop a podcast for undecided students explaining the career and the connection to high school math courses. You may want to include an interview with a professional in the field. Photo Story: You need to create a Photo Story highlighting key points to the career, including photos/video from that career area. The story should contain your own voice documenting each slide, with the option of non-copyrighted background music. Interview/Role Play: You will create a questionnaire that will provide the necessary components (see step 2 above) of this task. As part of your presentation, you will role play the interview.

Which math classes are the most important ones to focus on? Did I answer the question, “Why do I need to know math?”
