3. Long Term Problems Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level.

5. Spontaneous Some spontaneous problems build verbal skills, some build mechanical skills, and some build both, but all are aimed at improving creative problem- solving talents.

Spontaneous Hands-On –Teams are given a variety of objects and required to ‘do’ something with them –Example: teams are given toothpicks and marshmallows, then requested to build a tower as high as they can Verbal –Teams have to create a story or scenario –Example: Complete this phrase: “I am sitting in the dark because…”
